    Dual Monitor Starts Wrongly

I have an HP/Compaq 8100 running Win 10 Pro, 64 bit with all updates. It ran properly for a long time, then my disk failed. So I replaced the disk and used my System Restore disks to get things running again. Then for days Microsoft kept updating various Win things until finally it settled down with all updates installed.

Now the problem. My primary monitor is an HP W2371d 1920x1080 59Hz a PnP monitor and my secondary monitor is an old 1280x1024. Everything is set up and works properly, however... When I reboot the system the primary monitor now sometimes comes up properly and sometimes comes up in some mode where it only fills about 85% of the screen horizontally but fills it entirely vertically. It seems to be a coin toss which way it comes up. When it comes up wrongly, it says its using the right settings though obviously its not. But if I tell Win 10 to use some low res 1024x768 setting it fills the entire screen. Then I tell it to use 1920x1080 again and all is well most of the time, sometimes it takes 2-3 passes to "catch". All is ok then until the next reboot or sleep session. The old secondary monitor always comes up properly.

Next I downloaded the proper monitor driver from HP which installed and now Win 10 tells me it's using it. And I checked on the video adapter driver but both Microsoft and HP tell me it's at the current level. And it still reboots randomly into either the right state or the wrong one.

I've noted that if it comes up wrongly it will sometimes fix itself if I turn the monitor off/on. None of this was an issue before I replaced the disk and reloaded Windows.

One other curiosity is that the monitor tells me it's in 60Hz mode, but Win 10 tells me it's driving the monitor at 59Hz for no reason I can explain. I can't seem to adjust that independently of the resolution settings.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    :)

  2. Dual Monitor Setup & Speakers

    Hi,

There are several factors which could prevent your dual monitors and your speakers from working properly. In order for us to effectively assist you with your concern, we just have a few questions for you:

    • Are you getting an error message/code when trying to run the dual monitors?
    • Have you tried running the hardware troubleshooter?
    • Have you tried running the System File Checker tool?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you already performed?

    Regards.

  3. Single monitor=no transparency in Start menu on dual monitor system

Hello, I can't find any information about this one so here it goes.

My Windows 10 is a dual monitor system and I don't get this problem when both monitors are enabled but when I game I disable the secondary display and then on the primary display the Start menu will lose transparency. It makes me sad. Dual Monitor Starts Wrongly :(

I have installed color profiles for both displays and set them as primary profile for each one. I have also calibrated the color of both displays.

Primary display is AOC 2460 connected with DVI-D

Secondary display is Acer G246HL Connected with HDMI

Graphics card is Nvidia Gerforce 1050 TI 4GB and it has latest drivers

    Operating system is Windows 10 Pro v. 1803 (OS-build 17.134.228)

    Steps to reproduce:

    • On dual monitor system disable secondary monitor
    • Open Start menu and transparency will be lost
    Additional information:

CPU overclocked with multiplier but was at Stock settings when OS was installed

GPU overclocked with Asus GPU Tweak II

  4. Dual Monitor Starts Wrongly

Windows 10 Update - Now my dual monitors do not work

    Hi,

One of the possible reasons why Windows 10 was unable to detect your dual monitor is an outdated or incompatible graphics driver. To best address your concern, we need you to answer the following questions:

    • Which Windows 10 build are you using?
    • Have you already tried performing the troubleshooting steps suggested by
Mauro Cavallin on June 16, 2017?
    • Are both of the monitors not working just like what the original poster was experiencing? If yes, have you tried disconnecting one of the monitors? What was the outcome?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We will be waiting for your response.
