Duplicate display out of range with new monitor

Win10 HP desktop with onboard Intel GPU - 2 display ports and 1 vga. Been using two 23" 1080p monitors in duplicate display mode for months (main monitor display port, second monitor vga). Just replaced the vga monitor with a Samsung 32" using the same vga cable. Works great when set to extend mode @1080p. But when I choose duplicate mode, the new Samsung 32" monitor (vga) goes black saying out of range, display properties continue to say monitors are set to 1080p.

FYI: This is a secure/corporate machine, I cannot update drivers or OS due to group policy restrictions.

    :)

Dual monitor issue - 2nd monitor "out of range"

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forum.

The error message Out of Range usually occurs when the video card feeds the monitor, a signal stream in excess from what the monitor can handle.

I suggest you to try the steps listed below and see if it works for you:

    • Boot the computer in
      Safe Mode
, and right click on the Desktop.
    • Select Display Properties and choose a lower resolution.
    • Reboot the machine and check if it works.
    • If the issue persists, boot the computer again in
      Safe Mode
, and go to Display Properties.
    • Click on Advanced Display Settings, and choose
      Display Adapter properties.
    • Under Monitor tab, choose
      60 Hz
      as the Screen Refresh rate.
    • Apply the changes, boot the PC in normal mode to see if it works.

    Regards,

    duplicating monitor

    Hi,

Your concern about projecting your display to another monitor can be due to the configuration of your device and/or the setup that you're using.
To help us determine the appropriate troubleshooting steps that can resolve your concern, we would like to ask the following questions:

    • What’s the current resolution of your display settings in your device? To check, right-click on the blank area of the desktop, choose
Display settings and click Advanced display settings.
    • If any, what error messages did you receive when selecting duplicate? If possible, can you send us a screenshot of it?

In the meantime, we recommend that you run the built-in diagnostic tool in Windows 10 or the Windows 10 Troubleshooter. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • In the Search box, type Troubleshooting and press
      Enter.
    • Click on Hardware and
      Sound.
    • Find Hardware and Devices and click on it.

The troubleshooter will perform a diagnostic process on your system that will check and fix issues related to your device.
If the troubleshooter finds any issues, it'll be listed in the result with additional instructions you may need to follow. However, in most cases, the troubleshooter will find and apply fixes automatically.

Give us an update with the outcome.
