Windows 10: DX12 issue

Hi, I am currently using Surface pro 9, Processor 12th Gen IntelR CoreTM i7-1255U, 2600 Mhz, 10 Cores, 12 Logical Processors. I downloaded this game called Marvel Rivals and when i try to launch it it says DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument. I have checked my DX versions it is DX12. I thought maybe i need to reinstall it but i cannot find a link for windown 11

If the game is only DX11, then even if you have a DX12 GPU (video card), and a DX12 OS (Windows 10), the game will only run is DX11 as that the mode the game was designed to run in. In order to run in DX12 mode you need 3 things....

• Game must be a DX12 title
• GPU must be DX12 capable
• OS must support DX12

If any of those things at missing, the game will run in the lowest DX mode available to the lowest item. In your case it appears the game is only DX11 capable, so your DX mode will be 11. Also be aware that the DX API is backwards compatible, which means DX12 can play older DX games - 8 - 11 for example. That even though the OS is DX12 capable, doesn't mean a DX9 title is automatically elevated to DX12.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

 

Possible dx12 issues

- Ok, I did mention that COD can use either, but may have got carried away saying it's not a DX12 issue in regard to COD,

but Destiny2 does not use DX12. And, are you still having issues if you run COD using DX11 effects ?

(I don't know if COD specifies using a particular DX in the games settings. Many games do, but others automatically default

to the higher level DX when you use the max settings. If this is how COD is setup try lowering your settings a notch.)

Regardless. Have you tried repairing .NET ? As I mentioned, many people have been running around in circles trying to 'fix' DX

due to bogus DX errors when a corrupted .NET is the actual problem.

Failing that, have your tried the other options - sfc \scannow and DISM ?

All of which are easier than doing a 'repair reinstall\in place upgrade'. If that is the only way to fix a corrupted DX file MS

has potentially created another huge headache for Win10 gamers.

Failing all the above you may have to go the distance and do as Gary suggested.
