  1. Each reboot MS Software Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy do not "START"


    Since some recent updates by MS including the massive Win 10 next generation, after each reboot MS Software Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy do not "START".

    When I check them in services.msc, they are usually in Startup Type set to Automatic (not manual or Delayed Automatic).


    SOMETIMES, I find although I've left them in Automatic Startup Type, after a reboot, they are switched to "Manual."


    This is creating HAVOC with my iDrive backups.


    Why does Windows 10 keep failing to start these two apps?

    Further, why does Windows 10 change them to Manual Startup Type when I've selected Automatic?


    Here's an example. Yesterday, I checked, both were in Automatic Startup type and I "Started" them as they hadn't started when I booted up. They were both running when I closed Services.msc.


    Today upon boot up, not only were both NOT running, the Volume Shadow Copy was in MANUAL. That is NOT where I left it.

    No one but ME uses this computer.


    I'd REALLY like to hear a response from Microsoft's tech support on this issue!

    Hi,

    Thank you for getting back with a reply.

    I suggest you to start the Volume shadow copy service and check. Follow these steps:

    a. Click Start and type services.msc in the search box.

    b. Search for the Volume shadow copy service and make sure the start- up type is automatic.

    i. Right click on the service

    ii. If the service is stopped, then Start the service

    iii. Select Properties

    iv. And in the Start-up type select Automatic.

    c. Click Ok.

    Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered.

    I am getting a bunch of errors in the application log related to the Volume Copy Service. I first noticed it when I tried to create a recovery drive and the error simply said that "A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive"

    I examined the application log and noticed that this error occurs periodically, not only when I try to create the drive. I included the four errors below.

    What do I need to do to fix this?

    I am using a Surface pro 4, windows 10 with up to the minute patches. I also have installed carbonite but I doubt this is the cause as I did not encounter this problem on previous PCs

    Windows 10: The shadow copy provider had an error 0x80042306

    I have recently upgraded my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Now I cannot make a restore point and it says "The shadow copy provider had an error". Some posts suggest do chkdsk. But when I run chkdsk /scan it also shows "The shadow copy provider had an error".
    My Volume Shadow Copy service is on. I tried SFC /SCANNOW, but it says it cannot repair the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
