  3. IoT?
Why would anyone want their home appliances (air conditioner, fridge, TV, etc.) to be vulnerable to being hijacked by ransomware?

LOL...what kind of question is that?

Why do you have a computer? So that it can be attacked by ransomware?

Seriously, IoT is a great thing. It does not mean an IoT device has to be accessing Internet in anyway, it can however be connected to other IoT devices.

Windows 10 for IoT is meant for programming GPIO-ports/pins for controlling other devices, this is why it does not have any other UI than a screen with a status indicator containing Device name and IP-address.

I have security software running on my PC (and a bunch of backup images).

If it isn't connected to the Internet, then it is just home/business automation.
How many average users have their IoT devices running on a LAN not connected to the Internet?

Good to know that the recent DDOS attacks that were blamed on IoT, were caused by people surfing porn on their fridges. *Wink

  10. IoT is more than just putting your fridge etc on your network. Home automation, environmental monitoring Automated cat/dog feeder. Remote web came to see if the automated cat/dog feeder is working and your pet is OK. etc It doesn't have to be on the Internet either, it can be a closed network or Bluetooth to your PC, smart phone etc.

When I get to where I can't do my daily chores without the need of a computer, I'm ready for my non computerized pine box.

  12. It was just examples of what some are doing. As always different strokes for different folks. I have several raspberry Pi's that do various things. They can be setup as IoT devices but as of yet I haven't. I don't have the skills to use Windows 10 IoT so that's out for me. I'm also a Linux NOOB so I haven't gone down that road there either.

Obviously I can not give any accurate numbers, but you'd be surprised how many have their IoT devices not connected to Internet but are wirelessly connected to each other. Besides, most tasks don't need direct internet connection but rather a local network/cluster.

Internet of Things, does not mean the internet has to be the World Wide Web, it can be something smaller.

This is my opinion of IoT. I already have a IoT. I call it my mind. I would rather be dead than to have to depend on my appliances to do my thinking. I like computers. I like modern tech. But I do have my limit of how much I'm willing to allow computers to control my life.
