Windows 10: "Efficiency" mode not just crippling Chrome in Windows 11

I work remotely via Citrix Workspace and - only recently - have been regul;arly reduced to screaming in frustration at my supposeduly powerul laptop as it slows to a crawl and takes long, random pauses. The only change I can see is the introduction of "Efficiency mode". I don't remember seeing this befoire, and it WILL NOT allow me to disable it. I see in one response that this is "by design", but it's not explained. Stunning arrogance. *I want to turn it off*. How can I?

I have a problem with google chrome and edge which if I use it for a long time and use a lot of tabs, chrome doesn't work and it goes into efficiency mode in the task manager, and if I open a new tab I try to browse it just spins

How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.



Since yesterday (28 March) Google chrome is unusable. Task manager on my windows desktop says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.

Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes.

- I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.

- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc

- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.

- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.

- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

Open Task Manager > Processes > Right-click on Chrome or Edge and Expand > Right-click and select Efficiency to disable it. Repeat for the rest.
