    Eject/Dismount USB Drive Before Restart/update

I once lost a lot of data from an external USB drive because windows automatically did an update when the drive was connected, and erased all the data.If I am at the computer when it has updates available then I would remove the drive manually, but I am wondering if there is a way to set windows to eject or dismount the external drive before doing an auto update so that the drive is not recognized as connected then remounting it after the update is done?Or even better disable windows updates, if anyone knows a way that works. Disabling the update service trick didn't work for me.Just wonde

    :)

How to eject/dismount USB drive under BitLocker?

Can an external drive encrypted by BitLocker be dismounted (demounted)
from Bitlocker? I don't see that this is possible.

If it's not possible then it presents a security risk...if the drive is not/cannot be removed then other users logging into the same system will have access to the drive information; this is so even if the original user logs off. [using Win 10 Pro on Lenovo
    ThinkPad]

And if the drive is not "ejected" then it could be corrupted if simply unplugged.

ETA: In my case the drive is not auto-mounted

  4. Eject/Dismount USB Drive Before Restart/update

Removing a USB drive without 'ejecting' first

    Hello,

Normally I eject a USB drive within Windows 10 before unplugging the hardware. I once understood garbage can be left behind when not ejecting first.

Sometimes ejecting don't work because Windows says it's in use (for no reason according to me). In those cases I shut down Windows or I unplug the USB drive without ejecting first.

    • Is this garbage being left behind in Windows or on the USB drive?
    • How can I remove this garbage afterwards?
    Thanks in advance
