Windows 10: Email from a company whose website I was browsing

Hello,

I was wondering how an online retailer could have gotten my email address. I was browsing at their website yesterday, and this morning I received an email from that retailer. I had not subscribed to any emails from them. I do not have an account with them, and I did not provide them with any information, other than the item I was searching for.

I did something I shouldn't have done, clicked the 'unsubscribe' link in the email, and I was taken to that retailer's page, where it said they did not have my email address in their records. The page looked legitimate, and I did scan the URL at Virus Total.

I've cleared the cache from the browser, Firefox, but my options were to clear for today or to clear ALL of it. I just cleared today's.

I'll be doing a scan of the computer anyway now. I do, however, tend to think the email was ok. My main question is: How would they have obtained my email address when I didn't give it to them?

The retailer in question is Lee, as in the clothing company in the U.S.

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

You can protect yourself from any suspicious emails or messages that may be a phishing scams by following the steps below:

• Never reply to an email that asks you to send personal or account information.
• If you receive an email, don't click a link that supposedly take you to a company website.
• Never open any file attached to a suspicious-looking email.
• If the email appears to come from a company, contact the company's customer service via phone or web browser to see if the email is legitimate.
• Search the web for the email subject line followed by the word hoax to see if anyone else has reported this scam.

There's any number of ways that your email address can get on a spammers list, including these "facepunch" forums - what are they? Care to give us a link? Just, because you can't think of any other way it happened, doesn't mean it didn't. How do you know your PC isn't harbouring malware, for example? That will steal your email address and a whole lot more, wouldn't it?

TPU is a well established and highly respectable website & organization and I think it's a bit much to register on here and with your very first post to suggest that TPU would give away your address to spammers of viagra and other fraudulent emails from criminals. *Slap :slap:
