    Empty folder can't be deleted because the folder is in use in another program


    I created a new folder and open a WORD document in it. I tried to rename it but got the message "The action can't be completed because the folder of file in it is open in another program."


    * I closed the file in WORD, tried again and got the same message.
    * I moved the file to another folder, tried again and got the same message.
    * I unpinned the file from the drop-down list that you get when opening a file in WORD, tried again and got the same message.



    Similar questions posted here advise using a program called "takeown", but none of them are marked as "Answered", so I'm not going to try that unless someone can verify that it worked, in the sense that it resolved the issue.


    Any ideas?

    Trouble deleting a folder

    Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.

    *Confused Empty folder can't be deleted because the folder is in use in another program :confused:

    Will I be forever stuck with these unnecessary folders? *Oh Well Empty folder can't be deleted because the folder is in use in another program :eek:hwell:

    Hidden folders

    I installed `Kane and Lynch` on my PC twice in Program Files(x86) folder but I can`t find them (2 folders with game). But free space on my HDD is lower. So there`re those folders on my hdd. I use option `unhide` hidden folders but still can`t find them. Any suggestions? How can i delete those hidden folders?

    When I run istallation for this game I can see those folders in Program Files(x86) folde.

    I`m using Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

    Hey Casheti,...Have you tried the program PurgeIE?,..I have not found a file OR folder that this little app.can't get rid of!It is nice.
    It is also a web free-bee.*Smile Empty folder can't be deleted because the folder is in use in another program :)
