Windows 10: Empty Icon in Overflow popup

So I'm not even sure if I used the correct terms for this but as you can see, there is a blank space that moves around in the box as apps are running. It's directly to the right of the Bluetooth icon.

Right clocking and double clicking don't do anything so I'm wondering how I identify and kill that process.

Any thoughts?

Move icon from system tray to taskbar permanently

You should turn the system icon off. Try below -

Press and hold or right-click any empty space on the taskbar, tap or click Settings, and then go to Notification area.

Under Notification area:

Select which icons appear on the taskbar. Select specific icons you don’t want to appear on the taskbar. We’ll just move the icon into the overflow area so it’s out of sight.

Turn system icons on or off. Specify which icons you don’t want to appear.

 

How Do I Enable the Search Box in Windows 10?

Flow diagram logic assuming the search box is not visible on the taskbar.

1. Is the Cortana icon visible? (a white circle)

Yes. Right click on the Cortana icon. Select "Cortana" from the popup menu. Select "Show search box" from the next popup menu.

No. Right click on an empty location on the taskbar. Select "Cortana" from the popup menu. Select "Show search box" from the next popup menu.
