    Windows 10 update stuck checking for updates

    To solve this issue:

    1. Go to the following folder and delete the contents:

    C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

    2. Empty your recycle bin.

    3. Reboot your computer.

    4. Then "check for updates" again.

    Yes, it is perfectly safe to do so and next time you run Windows update it will re-populate the download folder.
