You'll still do steps 3 to 5 for it. *Smile

  4. Enable AHCI in Windows 8 and Windows 10 after Installation

Sorry to bug you with so many questions but I want to make sure I get it right this time.
In the screenshot for steps 3-5 in the tutorial the iaStorV key does not show the StartOverride key but in my system it does.
Does it not belong there? If it does, how to treat it?

It's no bother at all. You don't add the StartOverride key for steps 3-5. You would only do so for step 6 if not there. *Smile

  6. So then I would leave the StartOverride key in iaStorV alone? The value is currently set to 3.

Interestingly when I checked my Lenovo P300 system at home which also has an 850 EVO SSD the StartOverride keys in iaStorAV and iaStorV are both set to 3, yet when looking at The Samsung Magician software it shows AHCI is enabled.

I'd go ahead and change it to "0" (zero) since it's already there.

  8. Enable AHCI in Windows 8 and Windows 10 after Installation

Thanks Brink, Looks good, system started shows AHCI enabled in Samsung Magician.
Would you recommend enabling Samsung's RAPID mode for better performance?

If you have Windows installed on a SSD, then it probably won't be worth enabling.

If you think you could spare the RAM that it'll allocate, it won't hurt to try and see if you notice any performance difference with it enabled.

If you don't notice any difference, then you could just disable it again to free up the RAM.

Just registered here to mention the same bug/error. Purchased a 850 Evo just two days back and when I first installed the Magician app from the given CD in the box there was no AHCI error, but Rapid Mode was not clickable, then found the latest 4.9.7 on Samsung's website, then Rapid Mode was clickable but AHCI shows as deactivated.

    ROFL.

If you cannot boot after the change, CHECK you BOOT DRIVE settings in BIOS. My normal boot drive changed after I changed to AHCI so I had to change it back and it then worked.

Hi Shawn, I just put in a Samsung SSD and it works great, but with this usual problem. Samsung says a clean install is the only way--ack!! Reinstall over 100 programs!!! Any updates on this procedure? My BIOS currently says my SSD is running in SATA mode, not IDE.

    Thank you!!!
