Windows 10: Enable or Disable Auto Arrange in Folders in Windows 10

Darn...however, once that is done and she moves it back will it stay? Or, are you saying that if she does rename a file, it will resort the whole directory again?

 

It'll only affect the files in that opened folder when you rename a file, but yeah she can arrange them back to how she wants again afterwards.

 

After using one the .bat files, it certainly lets me to arrange folders/files however I want. But after I close/open window or refresh(F5) all files go back to their original positions/order. I'm using Windows 10 64bit with "creators update".

I'm seeing the same thing in Windows 10 Creators Update version 1703. It appears that this no longer works properly starting with this version now. *Sad

 

I've been struggling with this as well, but gladly it is working again in Version 1703 OS Build 16176
which I tested in a virtual machine.
So hopefully this feature will be back to stay.

Thank you for testing. Do the position of the icons you arrange in the position you wanted stick when you close and reopen the folder window?

They haven't been sticking in the latest builds.

Hi, I was wondering if this is something that can be done at all or if its a lost cause?
I REALLY want this function and have not found anywhere on the web on how to get it working or why Microsoft broke it.

I would really like microsoft to fix this so it works again, so my wife let's me back in the bed again

 

Windows 10 64bit Home user here with Version 1703 Creators Update OS Build 15063.483 . Having applied Disable_Auto_Arrange-Large_Icons.bat i am able to arrange desktop icons to where ever i want and it sticks even after reboots . Icons staying large as well . The only thing it does not do is allow me to move folders , files around within Windows Explorer. *BangheadThat seems to be the only fix left to do with Large Icons bat . *Smile Thanks for your excellent work on previous .bat fixes and hopefully there will be a cure for the world's frustrations on this matter too.

You can always arrange desktop icons how you like by default without having to disable auto arrange in folders.

Unfortunately, disabling auto arrange in File Explorer is no longer working starting in Windows 10 version 1703.
