  1. Enter Network Credentials Refuses Correct Home Network Password

As of this week I have two desktop computers on my home network, one a 10-year-old Windows 7 with a 2-year-old SSD HD, the other a new Windows 10 model. Every time I attempt to save or open anything cross network from one computer to the other, or access the other computer's files I get a box headed "Windows Security" with the text "Enter your credentials to connect to [my computer's name]". Below, it lists my correct network name, a field for me to enter my password, and a "Remember my credentials" checkbox.

Only needs to work once, I guess, thanks to that check box, but every time I enter the correct network password it says "The user name or password is incorrect."

What I'm putting in is my network password. If it's asking for my PC password, I can't because, by choice, I never set one up. It boots straight to the desktop, same as I've set up Windows 10 to on the new computer. If it's asking for a PC password, not a network password...then I don't know what to do.

But, like I said, it displays my network name right above the password box and my PC's name a line and a space above that. I've seen discussions and replicas of the box online, but no solution I could understand.

One more bit of the puzzle:

As an experiment, I tried to open a file from the Windows 10 desktop on the older computer over the network. The new computer doesn't show up at all. But the Windows 10 computer's save or open boxes do find the old computer.

    thanks

Enter Network Credentials Refuses Correct Home Network Password

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

This issue could be caused when password protected sharing is turned on.

You can follow the article below to further narrow down the root cause of the issue.

Method 1: Turn off password protected sharing.

    1. Now open Control Panel once again.
    2. Then click on All Control Panel Items.
    3. Then click on Network and Sharing Center.
    4. Then click on Advanced Sharing Settings.
    5. Under All Networks > Password protected sharing.
    6. Check Turn Off password protected sharing.

Method 2: Homegroup removed! How to get network sharing work with Windows 10 v1803.

Enter Network Credentials Refuses Correct Home Network Password

network issues, unable to enter network credentials

I upgraded two desktops to Win 10 (one from Win 7 and one from Win 8.1). I have issues with setting up a network.

First, I tried to set up a homegroup and I failed (i already posted another question on this subject with no luck so far). OK, forget about the homegroup, lets do it without it.

At this point, desktop A can see shared folders and a printer on desktop B - I did have to enter network credentials. Desktop B however cannot. It can see the desktop A under Network but when I click on it, it is asking to Enter network credential to connect to A. When I do that, it says that the user name or password is incorrect (and I am using the same user name and password that I use on desktop A to log on). What am I missing?

Both computers are on the same Workgroup "WORKGROUP". BTW - and I am not sure if that is relevant - when I try to enter credentials on desktop B and it is asking for User name and Password, just below it says "Domain: " - is my logging name.

    Thanks for any suggestion.
