Windows 10: Erased hard drive and I want to reused it but my system can't detect it.

Hi I accidentally erased my external usb hard drive and I don't need the data that was on it because it is backed up. However, I want to reused the hard drive and windows 10 doesn't detect the hard drive anymore. What can I do to format and restore the hard drive.

Webroot Drive Eraser doesn't detect HDD size corrently

When using the Webroot Drive Eraser (the program that wipes out the drive with zeros... you can make one with window washer), it sometimes doesn't detect my hard drive size properly. In particular, I'm working on a 250gb drive that gets detected as 135gb... is this a serious problem? Will it not erase the rest of the un-detected space?

 

Can't erase my hard drive...Please help!!

OK, I've been working on computers for many years, and have erased and reformated Hard drives more times than I can count. However, I'm in the process of upgrading right now, and wanted to erase and reformat before I put the HD in my new system. I usually will erase my HD's with Active Killdisk. For some reason, it will not work with this HD. Every time I try to run Killdisk, it starts to run and then brings me back to the Killdisk menu scxreen. I thought maybe it was a bad CD burn, so I burned a second copy and the same thing happened! Anyone have a clue as to why this won't work? Also, any alternative suggestions to quickly erase this Hard drive? Not that it really matters, but this HD will be used exclusively for storage from now on. My OS and apps will be on my new Raptor.

 

Reusing an external drive

I would like to reuse an external drive (hard disk) in my PC (Win 10 Home ver. 1703) and to erase its current contents and to "format" it for this purpose. How do I do this?
