Windows 10: error 0x80004005 when downloading KB3081436 cummulitive update

When I try to download the cummulitive update KB3081436, I get no where passed 0%. After about 3 minutes, the screen changes to recieve the error 0x80004005. According to the microsoft windows website, I need to activate my windows(Already been activated, and double checked). I cannot install the current windows updates due to this problem. I am running on a mac air bootcamp, of windows 10.

I've discovered that I have an update issue with that Cumulative Update. I'm getting:

• Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081436) - Error 0x80004005

Whenever I click the Retry button, it fails.

[Later Aug. 15: The update installed fine last night along with another cumulative update. Money works fine now. Thanks.]

 

I have restarted multiple times, and pressed retry multiple times. I still cannot update the Windows at all.

Can you try running the system file checker from an elevated command prompt to see if you have any integrity violations?

right-click start>Command Prompt (Admin)
at C:\WINDOWS\System32>
type the command sfc /scannow and press enter

 

I ran it and it found error it could not fix. Here is the log it produced(do not know how I would post it, so i uploaded to a dropbox).

Thank you. Please run sfc /scannow 2 to 3 more times, to see what corruptions can be fixed. Some need to be fixed first, before others can be fixed. After that, please open an administrative Command Prompt and type

findstr /C:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\CBS\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

and press ENTER.

This will grab the necessary info and put it in a file on your desktop called sfcdetails.txt. You can zip that up and upload it here.

It seems you have some problems which cannot be corrected due to hash mismatches.Cannot repair member file [l:30{15}]"basebrd.dll.mui"

I think the Edge one is nothing to worry about, but not so sure about the other two. The first one has to do with MS Branding.

Questions:
Did you upgrade initially, or is this a clean install?
If upgraded, from what OS version/bit?
Where did the upgrade media come from?
How did you perform the upgrade?
Can you post a screen shot of the Activation page in Settings please?
(Settings>Update & Security>Activation)


So, now we will to try to fix the corrupt image stores from online.

Open another Administrative Command Prompt; typeDISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
and press enter; wait for it to finish. Please note, it may seem to hang at 20% forever; just let it run. Post a screenshot or report results.

It should tell you whether or not what it found can be fixed. If so, please use the /restorehealth switch in the command below.

When finished, typedism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Try running Windows Update again.

Method 2: Microsoft Update Catalog

To obtain the stand-alone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Then again, I just read an article stating that this update may cause endless bootloops as the previous one, so maybe you might want to hold off installing it? Just a thought...

 

Update: KB3081438 is coming through now, and it's cumulative, so maybe you will just skip to that one.

 

It is trying to do the update KB3081438, but that also fails with the same error. The restorehealth failed(image below)

-I did a fully fresh install last week from windows 7 and updated that to windows 10. I used Window's Windows 10 installer tool to upgrade the 7 to 10. Running bootcamp on my mac to let Windows run, which the mac air early 2014, has the Intel HD Graphics 5000 built in by default.

I am going to attempt the download basket(It is very awkward to look at the website Microsoft made for it.)

 

form what I did, I installed BK3081438 through the catelog(was the only option available), but it still is trying to install it through the windows installer(and fails). I also now have this in the bottom right corner Attachment 31386

 

Grimofdoom, try this. I don't know if it will work, but go to Windows Update and click advanced options and uncheck 'Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I receive Windows Updates'
