Windows 10: Error: 0x80070003 Upgrade from v1809

I had not been able to implement feature upgrades since may 2019. The failure code was consistently ***003. Tier 1 of MS support applied the standard remedies culminating with in-place install using the ISO image. Fail. No logs checked, problem escalated.

Tier 2 largely repeated the above, although the tech uninstalled rather than disabled my McAfee antivirus. After he advised 'we need to remove all your 3rd party software, I had to stop him. I questioned why the error logs or upgrade log files had not been checked, he arrogantly stated he'd been doing this for years and know better than me despite my MCSA. Unacceptable, and amateur behavior.

I then solved the problem myself, starting with log results and Google. In 15m I found this article, implemented the registry change, and installed 1909 without problem.

Given upgrade failures are notoriously difficult to diagnose, I cannot understand why MS does not follow the basic problem-solving techniques. I'm publishing this to ensure the solution emerges at the top of searches when folk look for the error. One line of registry change. Fixed.

On a side note MS, is it not possible to make your error reporting a little more specific? In this case the failure was due the upgrade software trying to find a location that dis not exist on my PC. How hard is it to say 'Installer could not find location.......etc?)

This was my solution:

Key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WIMMount\ImagePath

Old Value: \??\D:\Program Files\Macrium\Reflect\wimmount.sys

Correct Value: system32\drivers\wimmount.sys

Error 0x80070003 - 0x2000D while trying upgrade windows 10 from v 1803 to v1809

Has anybody encountered the error 0x80070003 - 0x2000D while trying upgrade windows 10 from v 1803 to v1809? I used the mount function on the ISO file from my second hard disk. My system has an i5 CPU, 8GB of DDR3 1333 Mhz RAM and Windows Pro 64bit resides
on a 128 GB Intel SSD. The same ISO file worked perfectly on my Dell 7520 Laptop. I have tried to upgrade after a 'Clean Boot' but it failed again. Any suggestions?
