Windows 10: Error 0x8007042b - 0x4000d when updating from 1903 to 2004

I've been for the last two days trying to get an Acer laptop to update to the latest version of Windows 10, but every time I try, either the update gets stuck forever and does not finish after the first reboot or it reverts to the previous version after a second reboot, the installer window showing shortly after "Install failed in the SECOND BOOT phase with an error during the MIGRATE DATA operation" with error 0x8007042b - 0x4000d.


I tried all obvious fixes such as running SFC, DISM, updating my BIOS, disabling antivirus, booting clean and resetting Windows Update components.

I am stuck and I no longer have any ideas for solving this issue, also just formatting this drive and installing Windows from scratch isn't an option.

Windows 10 upgrade 1909 to 2004 failed with error 0x8007042b - 0x4000D

Hi,

I've been trying to upgrade my Windows 10 installation (1909 to 2004), and having tried a lot of things without success It always rolls back the upgrade with the following error message:

Error 0x8007042b - 0x4000D The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

Regular Windows updates for 1909 works properly and I get updated as needed. In my attempts to perform the upgrade I've been trying everything I could including:

1. run DISM and SFC commands to fix corruptions (there aren't any)
2. remove softwaredistribution folder
3. remove Avast AV
4. perform clean boot
5. perform upgrade from media creation tool

I really need some help to investigate the log files to determine the root cause as reinstalling without apps will be extremely painful in my case. I've prepared the following files and can share directly with any advisor who will be willing to take a look
(if more are needed I can provide):

• Setupact.log and Setuperr.log from the following path C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther
• Setupact.log and Setuperr.log from the following path C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback

performed the following:

1. all windows features turned off (as advised above)
2. clean boot per https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows
3. attempted the upgrade using media creation tool

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Error Code 0x8007042B-0x4000D

I had same problem ,I tried more than 12 times to update within window every time I got this error message at the end 0x8007042B - 0x4000D ,and also tried to disable all services, did not help until I uninstall my comodo security software it solved my
problem ,( I used media creation tool )
