Windows 10: Error 0x800f0986 - Windows update - Can't update since getting new PC.

I haven't been able to update Windows 10 since I put my hard drive with windows in a new PC. (Yes I entered the product key again to re-activate Windows)

When I try to update it downloads and installs to 100% then fails and says:

"There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later.

2020-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4550945) - Error 0x800f0986"

I've googled and tried various solutions but nothing has worked.

Anyone know the solution?

Who has seen this vista update error

When you go to Windows vista update and it tell you to update a driver that you have already updated. Then it says failed to update and gives you the error code that tell you that you already have a never version than that. WTF? Why in the world would it be trying to updated something with an older driver. Well the only way to get it out of your windows update list is to go uninstall what ever that driver is then run the update and install it. Then run the newer drivers again.

Well I still can't get the Nivida Network Bridge to disappear out of the list. I uninstall the one in device manager and go to the update and before it's even done with that. Vista is automatically installing a newer version than is in the Vista update list.......

 

Does Windows Update Take 10GB?

Richtclick con "My PC" (Or "My desktop" and "Properties", it tells you if your system has SP1.

1) In your case, I would just reinstall al new (not update or repair), no need to killdisk.

2) Make sure your system is perfectly healthy (Device manager), if needed, install mobo, chipset and SDD drives.

3) Run Winupdate, it will install updates step by step, not 200 at once.

4) Check each step before proceding to next step. Read WinUpdate error messages early (also in Event viewer/System filter by error and warning).

What should I try since even reset and formatting the system cannot be done for errors.
