Windows 10: Error 1722 getting session names

I've been trying to get the cmd prompt's msg command. At my friends house we tried communicating between two computers on the same WiFi network. We couldn't get it to work so when I got home I tried between my laptop and desktop, one WiFi one Ethernet. All 4 are Windows Pro. I cannot, for the life of me, get it to work in any way. With desktop names, IPV4 addresses, even tried messaging the whole server.

When I type from my laptop to my desktop I get:


C:\Users\itsme>msg * /serverESKTOP-BLAHBLAHBLAH "hi"

From my desktop to laptop I tried using the IPV4:


C:\Users\itsme>msg * /server:192.168.blahblahblah "hi"

When I try messaging the whole server:

C:\Users\itsme>msg * "hi"

It only messages the machine I send it from.
I have gone to both's registries and both have AllowRemoteRPC set to 1.

I haven't tried it between two different users yet, does that matter?My friends computers were also getting the same error message.

The 1722 error message is a general installer error message that states that a system level failure has occurred.

To resolve your concern, we suggest that you follow the steps on: Error 1722 when reinstalling Flight Simulator X.

Note: When using the command prompt in Step 7, make sure to run it as administrator.

To launch the command prompt as administrator, follow these steps:

• Click Start.
• Type Command Prompt.
• Right-click the result and choose Run as administrator.
