Windows 10: Error Code 0x800106ba on Microsoft Security Essentials

This comes up almost every time I turn on my Win 7 laptop. Usually it forces me to restart to "Turn On" protection, but now that does not help. Thanks!

When you run Microsoft Windows Defender, you receive one of the following error messages:

• Error Code 0x800106ba Application failed to initialize
• Error Code 0x800106ba The systems license has expired. Your logon request is denied.
  

This problem may occur after Windows Defender is updated.

A recent post by mchampfl on page 11 of this long
running thread - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...ae-9c0d-15c97e64cea3?page=11&tm=1441106019496
- suggests that MSE is having problems with large compressed/zipped archive files due to the fact that MSE needs to open these in memory to scan them. The crash, resulting in 0x800106ba can be avoided, per that reply, by
disabling the scanning of compressed archives in MSE settings.

Perhaps the same problem is affecting Defender on Windows 10 (and 8.x). Give the above a try and let us know the results.
