I am unable to back my computer up onto an external hard drive because the when I try to do so I am getting the message below:
'sorry but that didn't work.To find out more look up error code 0x8007000E'"
I had this problem, and found a couple of forum dialogues on the same subject - bot locked so I couldn't put this comment on it.

I tried the chkdsk route several times which stalled at 12%.

On trying to reboot, it went through the cycle of 'Startup repair' etc., which ended up 'failed''.

I tried the recover options (F7 on boooting) - including the stalling chkdsk, but same failure to start.

The options to do a system recovery allarmingly said there weren't any previous recovery points - not so in reality.

I tried using a recovery disk which seemed to end up doing the same useless attempts at fixing and restarting. the only option left was to do a 'Reset this PC and keep my files'. Even that failed to get started and reshowed the screen on which to choose to do it.

Eventually, going round the same routes a few times, the PC Reset got started.

After an hour or two, Windows 10 (the best system ever!!!! Really?) actually started.

After doingFirst call was to File backup: guess what - it still came back with the same error code.


Back to the forums and found this:

I went to "Control Panel\System and Security\Back up and Restore (Windows 7)" and clicked on "change settings". After that, I searched for the location where the back-up should be saved. After that I connected my external harddrive and refreshed. My external harddrive came up and I chose that one. After doing these steps I saw that "Back up using File History" was turned on and I could change the settings."


I started down this route and on the Windows 7 backup screen couldn't find the 'change settings' but 'Select another bcakup to restore files from', and this indicated that no backup disk was allocated, and my external backup disk was quickly found and selected.

Back on the Windows 7 backup screen, right down on the bottom left was a 'File History' link. Iclicked on it and the File History backup screen appeared and I clicked on the toggle to turn it on and IT DID.


If I had seen Jody's post before a system reset I could have avoided all the recovery aggro. and all the application reinstalls.

Error code 0x8007000E

I have tried to back up my save files on a hard drive I have used before, with no problems and I get this Error code 0x8007000E

Can't backup anything =(

I have using file history to back up files to an external harddrive. However it now is turned off and when I turn it on I get error code 0x8007000E. How can I fix this?

 

Backup fails with error 0x8007000E

When I run backup (from Windows 7) it fails with error 0x8007000e. There is over 1TB of space on the detination drive and the souce drive is only 121gb
