    Is your BIOS up to date?

    There is also a 3030 beta bios meant for improving system stability. I am not saying you must update your bios. Remember that doing that can be a tricky business.

    So I have been very busy over the last little while, which is why I haven't replied, but it appears a recent Windows update fixed it. One day last week the problem was there, then it wasn't this week, so I suspect the update fixed it.

    Incidentally:

    Yus yus, I've done that before and fried my (ex-)laptop's motherboard in the process *Tongue I've tried to avoid doing it again ever since.

    Thank you all for the suggestions, but it looks like this one's done and dusted for now.
