  1. Errors by opening Task Scheduler

    Hello.

When I open the Task Scheduler, I get many error messages, which mostly resemble to "Task Name: The task object version is either unsupported or invalid" along with a few "The selected task 'Name' no longer exists. To see current task, click Refresh".

One thing I noticed, the tasks were all/mostly (I haven't fully checked) outside the "Microsoft" folder under "Task Scheduler Library" based on my research into the Registry Editor. I have also deleted a few with a back up for each, but, if I try to restore the registry files with elevated rights, I get an error message: "This app can't run on your PC - To find a version with your PC, check with the software publisher". This includes the "regidlebackup" task which I shouldn't have deleted, but it does not want to be restored.

I don't think this occurred before I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7.
Also, I could revert back to Windows 7, but the problem is if this issue would be solved by doing so.

    Computer Specifications:
    Dell, XPS 8300. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40GHz.
12 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.

I have tried listing the tasks (before the changes in RegEdit) into a text file. For privacy, I have replaced my name by "????".
    test.txt

    Edit: Solution found.
Due to no one responding after 2 days or so, I took the risk of deleting the entries corresponding to the tasks' name in the registry after having exporting each entry. So far, the computer seem to work even after a restart and the Task Schedule shows no error after being opened and the logs/windows in the middle also work.

From my guess, upgrading to Windows 10 failed to delete the old entries after re-arranging them in the registry.

    :)

  2. Error on opening task scheduler

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are getting an error while opening task scheduler. We’ll certainly help you with this.

Let’s try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Disable and enable Disk defragmentation scheduler.

    1. Press Windows + R to open in Run command.

    2. Type dfrgui to open Disk fragmentation window.

    3. Click on change settings and uncheck the Run on schedule (recommended)
    option.

    4. Now open Task Scheduler and check if the issue persist.

    5. Repeat the steps to Turn on the Disk fragmentation schedule.

    Method 2:

    1. Open the Task Scheduler Library.

    2. Open Microsoft and click on Windows

    4. Click on every folder until you get the code.

    5. Open File Explorer (Windows + E) and type the following path in address bar type (or copy and paste).

    C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\

    6. Open the folder that showed the error in the Task Scheduler

    7. Delete the contents of the folder (Do not delete the folder).

    8. Now, open Task Scheduler again and check if the issue persist.

Hope this will help you. Keep us posted with the status of the issue. We’ll be glad to assist if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

  3. Error on opening task scheduler

When I open the Task Scheduler I get the following error,

The selected task "sqmUpload_S-1-5-21-1618685912-523658729-3493555871-1006" no longer exists. To see the current tasks, click Refresh

When I refresh I get the same error.

I have run SFC and got the following result "Windows did not find any integrity violations"

I have run DISM and got the following result "The restore operation completed successfully

    The operation completed successfully"

I then re-open Task Scheduler and get the same error.

Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

I have the same problem. Can you tell me where you found these entries in the registry? I can't seem to find them.

Did you delete everything out of c:\windows\system32\tasks as well?

  6. I think it's here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree

Create a backup or multiple backups, find the name of the task which gives you an error (ie: the first popup from opening Task Scheduler), delete it and see if the error disappears. If it does, continue on. If not, try to import the backup.

I had 1 or 2 exceptions where the file or folder was within another (ie: ...\TaskCache\Tree\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center), which I deleted with no apparent errors so far. So that might be the case if you don't find it.

I did not touch anything in C:\Windows\system32\Tasks.

Good luck and hope this resolves your issue.

    Errors by opening Task Scheduler

    Hi guys,

I've been suffering similar issue myself recently and especially relating to Windows Media Center Tasks. I found this post earlier which should help. By all accounts upgrading to Windows 10 has an issue whereby old registry keys are not removed and irrelevant tasks continue to populate the task manager. The link below will help solve that.

Once you completed this "fix"... Did Windows "re-recognize" the Scheduled Task based on the XML file buried in the Tasks Folder?
    Or was it "truly deleted"?

And, if it were gone, were you able to import it from the XML in Tasks?

The reason I ask is that (at least one of) the corrupted tasks is one I depend on (its my personal backup task...) I need to know whether or not I need go through extraordinary lengths to make sure I can re-do the task...
