Windows 10: ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File

The upgrade worked, but I was having issues with it, like Windows not activating, but after doing a clean install all is good!
So to answer your question, I did use the ESD file in C:\Recovery Image.

Clean install is the best solution to the 9860 upgrade issues. And this tutorial is the best tool for the clean install solution.. *Biggrin

 

Agree with that. My upgrade install was sluggish with file explorer and IE. Clean install fixed this for me. Good luck

 

Kari... Great Tutorial! Works easy and quickly. One question (cause I'm paranoid!!!), is there some way, something to check to make sure I just burned build 9860 other than doing an install? Just a sanity check. Thanks.

right click on the setup.exe and choose properties then details tab, Product version should read 6.4.9860.0

Can the DVD I burned be used to do a "repair" install (in-place upgrade) like I'm used to on win 7?

You could but I would suggest a clean install every time, it's probably faster and less problematic. Better yet, take an image backup when you've got the OS tweaked just the way you want it.

Thanks again, you earned a rep!*Party Yes its just like a 7 install. I tried to do upgrade with it but did not have enough space. The partition I was trying to upgrade was 30GB and 17GB of that was used by the 10TP. So I went ahead and did the clean install . Glad I did because the upgrade that I did on my laptop runs slow and is buggie. Good luck

I will try this soon, just acquired a 'new' machine and I plan to dual boot Win7 and Win10 to get that real hardware experience I'm not getting with Hyper-V.

I took a cursory look at the two compressed folders - yours has 36 files dated 2014, Chris's has 26 files dated 2014. It was only a quick look.

Just wanted to let you know after seeing v3 in your post.

To get all available information about your ISO first mount the ISO then give the following command in elevated command prompt:
Code: dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:X:\sources\install.wim /index:1[/quote] Change the drive letter (highlighted in above command example) accordingly to point to virtual drive where you mounted the ISO.
