    Event 18 and 41

    Hi,

My computer, which was built around late December 2020, has been restarting randomly. There have been around five random restarts since mid-January 2021, with frequency increasing recently.

The first two and fourth random restarts occurred while playing a game, the third one occurred while watching a Youtube video, while the latest one occurred while browsing the workshop in a Steam game.

Prior to the latest random restart, Event 18 - WHEA Logger appeared on the event viewer, with the following message:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

    Reported by component: Processor Core

    Error Source: Machine Check Exception

    Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error

    Processor APIC ID: 2

The details view of this entry contains further information.

I tried researching on the issue, and read that I should turn off automatic restart in the system settings to generate a DMP file. I ticked off automatic restart, and when the latest random restart occurred, my computer merely froze. After manually restarting the computer, the event viewer did not show any Event 18 ID, only Event 41 and 1001.

I am unable to upload or even access the DMP file under Minidump, though I am able to do so for the MEMORY.DMP under the Windows folder.

Please let me know if I need to upload any file, and what solutions are there, if any, for this issue. I hope I do not need to replace any hardware. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    :)

  2. event 41

    Hello,

The kernel power event ID 41 error occurs when the computer is shut down, or it restarts unexpectedly. Having said that, we highly suggest performing the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  3. Kernel-Power event id 41. BugcheckCode 0

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In-order to get more clarity on this issue and to assist you with appropriate troubleshooting steps, reply with answers to the below questions:

    1. Are you aware of any changes made on your PC, prior to this issue?
    2. Is this issue specific while playing a particular game?
    3. Which edition of Windows are you currently using?

A Kernel Power Event 41 can occur in the following scenarios.

Scenario 1: The computer restarts, and there is a Stop error BugcheckCode in the event data.

Scenario 2: The computer is shut down by pressing and holding the power button.

Scenario 3: The system randomly restarts and no Stop error BugcheckCode is listed, or the computer is completely unresponsive (hard hang).

I suggest you refer the article on Kernel
    Power Event ID 41
and follow the steps for the scenario that is causing this error on your PC.

Additionally, you can refer the article on Windows

    and check if that helps.
