    EVGA Step-Up Program

Just curious has anyone here had issues with EVGA cards and windows 10? I bought a new GT740SC 4GB in June and I've never got this card to run more than a few minutes. EVGA gave me an RMA and the "Step Up" option but I'm afraid, do I actually give EVGA more money for the 980, 1080 4GB versions and then hope I can successfully use it? The tragedy is all I'm trying to do is use my Cad Software Solidworks and Sketchup. At Present I'm running the native Intel HD 530 just to use my custom built baby. I'm so distraught I spent a lot of money and now I have to spend more. My husband is pissed off and doesn't think I should "waste" more money on the same brand of video card! Any thoughts on this? Funny thing is for clients I use ATI/Radeon never had any problems. I thought I'd give EVGA/Nvidia a try. As you can see that didn't quite work out. Any advice would be most welcome!

  2. No, I have had no problems whatsoever with this EVGA FTW 1080/Nvidia Pascal card with Windows 10. I had no problems with my previous Nvidia Asus Kepler cards under Windows 10 either. Previous to that I had AMD 5870's with Windows 7 and had no problems with those.

I am no fan boy of any brand so wouldn't try to convince anyone to buy one brand over the other. Performance wise, Nvidia's current Pascal architecture is superior to anything AMD has to offer. And EVGA has one of the best customer support service systems/warranty in the business. Many reviews of EVGA Pascal cards at the link below:

    http://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-...-m2497856.aspx

AMD's response to Pascal's performance was better pricing with their 480's. But of course that's why Nvidia came out with their 1060.

I have read many reviews and never seen any specific issues to EVGA under Windows 10. The Nvidia architecture (Maxwell/Pascal) and drivers are universal.

All I can suggest is do your research (bing/google are your friends) and decide. If you feel more comfortable with AMD, go for it. They make a good card too.

I have had no problems at all with EVGA and they have some of the best customer support in the industry. I have run EVGA, 670, 780 Classified and 980 Classified under Windows 10 and have had no problems at all.

As @specialkone said, no matter what manufacturer you use, the architecture is from Nvidia and the drivers are the same.

Looks like the queue is starting to move. From registration to step 2 email took 2 months and 10 days.

Now I just have to hope that Amazon mislabeling the invoice doesn't screw me over.

Edit: Well, they verified my invoice. All that's left to do now is pay the difference, ship them my card and wait on my new one. *Biggrin

  5. Great news. Welcome to the world of Pascal speed, 8 GB of GDDR5x memory, a core clock you'll never see go below that 1847 MHZ boost number and cool temps. Enjoy.

What do they do with all these older cards that get returned in the step up program?

I always wondered that. Probably used as replacements for people that RMA

  7. Thanks man. I'm pretty stoked.

That's what I figure as well. Either that or they refurbish them and then sell them again.

Even if you're not really an overclocker (I'm not), what I like about Precision XOC is the OSD display and most definitely the ability to set customer fan curves.

  9. Oh yeah, custom fan curves are a must, although going to a single card should lower temps quite a bit for me. I'll definitely look into Precision again once I go to Pascal. Seeing as how I'm getting one of the lower end 1080 models, I'll likely be wanting to OC at least a bit.

Congrats on your new card. If you have trouble with XOC, here's a look at latest A/B including the XOC kind of skin on my 1080 Gaming. And current O?C until rest of my fans get here. More juice left

  11. Personally, I don't see that SC card as lower end. 1708 base clock and 1847 boost compared to the FTW 1721/1860 means nothing for gaming. Depending on your specific rig temps, while gaming you will always be above that 1847. The differences with the FTW are features (not really game performance) two 8 pin, two bios and changeable LED lighting.

Of course, we boys below, will be waiting for you to run a Time Spy score and of course you're expected to be in that 1080 group*Biggrin

  12. Oh, I guess you guys got the Gaming, ACX 3.0 in the step up, not the SC. Still 1607/1733 I don't think will make a difference at all with in game FPS.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm hearing that Pascal is pretty good with overclocking, so I definitely plan on bumping it up a bit.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll still run things really well, especially after I throw a small OC on it.

  14. 2 months and 17 days total. Exactly 7 days between getting to step 2 of the process and the GPU actually being delivered to my door. Not bad.
