Exactly when is the cutoff for the free upgrade?

I have a small Dell desktop I bought new about a year ago and it came with 8.1.
I know it's eligible for the 10 upgrade and it does have the "Get Windows 10" icon in the system tray.

If 10 was launched on July 29 2015, does that mean I can do the install for free any time between now and July 29, 2016? That seems to be the implication but I've never seen any "official" statement that specifies that date as the deadline.

Will still I have the option to roll back to 8.1 for 30 days from whenever I do the install? I seem to recall reading that the roll back option ends this month (October).

    Thanks

    :)

Exactly when is the cutoff for the free upgrade?

There has been no specific end date for the free upgrade published, only "one year".

The 30 day revert period is written into the software and should always apply, even after the free upgrade offer is over.

The "Free" download is supposed to be up until 7/29/16. If you burn the ESD ISO to a DVD. You can install it at any time. The only ones that really have issues, are those who have had problems that they never took care of, before upgrading. The other is using older hardware that they upgraded 8 to, but certain hardware items are no longer supported.

The other is people still using old legacy equipment that was no longer supported as of when Vista came out.

We have had no issues on my wife's unit. I did a Upgrade on her's, with no migrating of app's, drivers, etc.. It actually came out better than expected. Just had to install those items that she uses all of the time.

If you've registered as eligible and downloaded the update, does that mean you can still do the free upgrade after the cut off date?

I would think you'd actually have had to do the upgrade itself, which involves sending your machine ID/key to MS as part of activation, in order to secure your free upgrade before the cut-off. Of course there's nothing stopping you from doing a full backup just prior to the upgrade and restoring that as soon as Windows 10 has activated.

You could also create a backup of your activated Windows 10 system before reverting just to be safe, although that shouldn't be required.

What about the "Roll-back" option to go back to 8.1 or whatever it was previously? Does that continue to be 30 days from whenever you actually do the install? I thought I read somewhere that you can't roll back after this month (October).

  10. It's just a timed deletion of the backup the Windows 10 install process makes. To be honest you shouldn't rely on it anyway, there are plenty of people who have had problems with rolling back using it. Create a proper backup using imaging software like Macrium Reflect or something similar before you upgrade.

Will Windows 10 ISO's 32-bit and 64-bit install and activate on other machines after July 29th 2016?

Yes. But if the computer has never had Windows 10 on it before you will have to pay for it to activate.
