Windows 10: Excel file association shows EXCEL 2016 even though have Office19

I uninstalled Office 2016 and installed office 2019 on my laptop. Now clicking on existing Powerpoint or Word files created by older 2016 versions can be opened with double clicking on the file name. However, double clicking on the Excel files created by 2016 version OR by 2019 version cannot be opened by double-clicking the name in the explorer. I have to open the Excel 2019 first and then search for the file I need to open. That works.

When I checked the file associations, I found that .pp* and .doc* show PowerPoint and Word respectively. However, the Excel file association still shows Excel 2016. I have tried to look for the solutions on the web but have not been successful as i cannot find a way to remove the association and associate with Excel 2019. System does not show where to find the app to associate. Thanks

Problem Associating Spreadsheet Files with MS Excel 2010 After Launching an MS Excel 2016 Trial ...

I use MS Excel 2010, and after launching what was a pre-installed version of MS Excel 2016 one time, my spreadsheet files are now associated with the soon to exprire (it expires today) trial of MS Excel 2016. I am unable to restore the association with
MS Excel 2010 via the Control Panel's 'Default Programs' option.

How can I reset the file association so that my spreadsheet and csv files are associated with MS Excel 2010, and
not MS Excel 2016?

Under ... Set Your Default Programs >>> Excel 2016 >>> Choose Defaults for This Program >>> Set Associations for This Program ... the options to deselect cannot be changed. I believe the responsible animal is at the bottom of the file-type list, under
'Protocols'; its check box is marked, and it is identified as 'MS-EXCEL Url:Excel Protocol Microsoft Office 2010.'

I'd guess that declaration specifies that my spreadsheet and csv file associations are set to MS EXCEL 2016, and not MS EXCEL 2010. However, as with the other options, it cannot be unchecked.

I believe this requires a registry edit similar to this Fixing an Excel File Type Association After Upgrading ... but
one that is specific to my situation.

Please advise.

impossible to associate Excel with any type of file

I have Office 2016 installed on Windows 10. By accidents, a user has installed Excel Mobile on the PC. Since then it is impossible to associate Excel with any of the standard files (although it is still associated with .xls, but not the others). Excel doesn't
appear any more on any of the list. Here is an example :





The only way to use Excel now is to open Excel and from Excel to open a file.

This is really very annoying.

 

Excel on Windows 10 taskbar does not show recent files

I have the same issue with Excel only. Tried your option by dragging a file a number of times without success as, even though it showed the Action Tab "Pin to Excel 2016", the dragged file did NOT appear. Any other suggestions??s
