  1. Existing Windows 10 licence to new PC?

    Hi to All,

My current PC (custom build) is 9 years old. It's done OK but they do start to slow down eventually.
I am looking at buying a new one from a specialist supplier.
The current PC has a 256Gb Samsung 840 Pro Sata SSD. (I have a separate HDD for files etc)
My Operating system is Windows 10 Pro which was a free upgrade from Windows 7 Pro OEM, for which I still have the disc and licence key.
The new PC comes with an M2 SSD, same size but I don't need any more space. It comes with an additional HDD.
It is shipped with Windows 10 Home, but I prefer the Pro version.

Do I have to bite the bullet and pay out for a new licence for Windows 10 Pro or is there a way I can transfer my licence to the new PC?

I am also a subscriber to Office 365
I have read somewhere that it is not straightforward to clone a sata SSD to an M2 SSD

Thank you for your constructive advice.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?

  4. Existing Windows 10 licence to new PC?

Transfering from existing Windows 10 PC data and apps to a new Windows 10 Home PC

I have an existing Windows 10 PC and purchased a new Windows 10 Home PC. I want to transfer my files and most apps to the new PC with the minimum fuss preserving my existing software and licences.

I have backup software and an old 200gb WD MyBook Essential hard disk which I intend to use to backup most data before hand.

    Can you suggest anything easier.
