  1. Expanding C: partition with available unallocated space wants me to convert to dynamic disk.

    Hello!

Recently I have moved my boot drive from an old 160gb one to a newer 500gb hard drive.

I wanted to extend the: partition using the unallocated space available.

The current partitions on the HDD are as follows:

    EFI system partition

    Windows C:

    Recovery (OEM partition)

    Unallocated space

When attempting to expand the drive I get this exact error/warning: The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start any installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s) except the current boot volume.

All the advice I have read online says it is because windows only allows 4 partitions on one disk, but I have only three, and will only have thre if I expand the C: partition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks!

    :)

  3. Unable to expand primary partition to unallocated space.

In Disk Management, the four "blocks" representing my HDD's partitions (in order) are:

    System Reserved (350MB),

(CExpanding C: partition with available unallocated space wants me to convert to dynamic disk. :) [1391.07GB],

    450MB Healthy (Recovery Partition),

    and 471.16 GB Unallocated.

I believe I would be able to expand the C: partition into the unallocated space if the "Healthy (Recovery Partition)" wasn't between them.

Any ideas how I could merge C: and the unallocated space?

    Unallocated Space to C Drive

    Hi Travis,

It appears that a disk partition was created but was never assigned its allocation. Assuming there are no files stored in the unallocated partition, perform these steps to combine it with your C: drive:

    • In Disk Management, right-click on (CExpanding C: partition with available unallocated space wants me to convert to dynamic disk. :) which appears next to the
      Unallocated partition.
    • Select Extend.

Let us know if you're able to combine the spaces after following the steps above.

    Regards.
