I was thinking along the same lines there Jimbo. Make it a one time limited time offer. Something like the free Media Center keys offer. One free product code per e-mail address or Microsoft Live ID. Bit torrent would work for me. It would spread the bandwidth nicely too. For a while anyway, a lot of people would stop the session once their download was completed.

I don't use bit torrents. They can still do what I said earlier. I do have at least one installed on my Linux system but the only reason it is there it came with the Operating system. Hopefully we will find out everything next week.

  3. I personally I'm not looking for free or a discount.

What I want is the best damn operating system Microsoft has ever made. I want to be able to buy a Microsoft produced DVD and the proper COA attached. I will do the rest.

Just because I got to play in the big league ball park before the season started doesn't mean I should get free tickets or discount tickets when the season opens.

Sorry couldn't resist, Microsoft already had the best operating system. Actually they have 3 of them. Windows 95, 98se, Windows 7. When you buy season tickets you get a discount but if you don't use them it is not really a discount.

When it becomes available to the public how will it be available to buy, CD at the store or downloaded from the net. If I have a problem with my PC that I can't fix, I reformat. I would like a disk or flash drive so I get 10 back without buying it again. When I buy a new PC I order the reformatting CDs or flash drive as soon as I get the PC set up.

It would be a bonus for MS (i.e. they wouldn't have to pay out).

The point would be to eliminate install media (DVDs) for old versions of Windows.
Laptop recovery partitions are going to wear out sooner or later. That would tick OEM users off. I lucked out and dell sent me a re-installation disk of windows 7 but it was like pulling teeth to get it. Come to find out later, the slowness was cause by a bad motherboard. Microsoft also needs to included the OEM users as well.

I edited my previous post, it is kind of hard to put somethings in writing.

    What about this way
$10.00 (U.S. dollars) Windows 10 Home Premium (Get it windows 10 for $10.00 for home users)
    $50.00 Windows 10 Pro
    $xxx.xx Windows 10 enterprise
    No subscriptions required

This would be for everyone & you could change architecture if you do a clean install. Those would reasonable prices
    but here is most likely what will occur;

    $130.00 Windows 10 Home Premium
    $200.00 Windows 10 Pro
    $499.00 Windows 10 Enterprise
    (they will offer OEM discounts)

Microsoft has no intentions, of cutting prices, and in addition, have Bing installed by default. So don't kid yourselves.

IMO, MS would want a low entry price to attract as many users as possible and the above pricing would be silly.,

My prices may be low but I was thinking like you Jeff with the windows 7 being the most popular operating system worldwide Microsoft is going to have to do something to attract people away from windows 7. Now, if Microsoft does something like subscription based operating that will not work. Not everyone wants another bill. Microsoft got to remember there are other alternatives operating system out there and not just Linux.

  10. Trust's prices are not realistic for a first release,
Since 8 did not follow that I would seriously doubt Microsoft would come out the gate with a nag like that,
It would be as popular as the Slate *Smile

I am not as knowledgeable as all of you are, but I do agree about W 7, it's my favorite so far. I started with 98 and I think with every new OS system I have used got better and faster except for ME. W 8 was very fast, but don't know how much of that is Acer. My W 7 has always been slow booting but that doesn't bother me at all. It is faster over all than the previous versions have been. I do not like tiles in 8 and would hate for all future systems to have them.

I will be expecting 10 to be less than $100 for us testers. Also I've been running 10 on the same partition as 8, using HyperOS2014 and it has taken everything I've thrown at it, even an old graphics card: 10 knew it, installed drivers, no restart. This reminded me of 95, when computers obeyed my wishes, not theirs like 8/Vista do!

I don't see tester's getting any discounts, it would be nice, I just don't think it will happen. I think MS realizes that there will be no huge adoption of Windows 10, and it will take years before it may become relevant, if ever.

    You were fortunate...

One of the last updates, wiped my hard drive (dual boot system), and my other one it always had duplicate log in pictures on start up. So I just removed them and haven't re-installed anything since, maybe when CP comes out I will look at that.

Jeff, not everyone can afford a new computer, new operating system, or even high speed internet. Not all countries have discount internet service and free computers for low income users. Some people get computers as gifts.

The key to more windows 10 users it has to be cheap and have no subscription requirement, otherwise I don't think windows 10 will succeeded.

There are several issues I don't like especially this one.

Microsoft confirms latest Windows 10 Technical Preview bricks harddisks | Myce.com

That stopped me from testing windows 10 & removing it. I hope Microsoft fixes that issue with the new preview release.
