Windows 10: Explorer freezes when renaming/deleting folder: LanmanWorkstation

Hello,

I have been having this issue for quite a long time (even when I was using Windows 8.1 before upgrading to 10).
Basically, Explorer freezes for ~7s when I rename/delete/move a folder. It even shows "Explorer not responding" in the task manager after few seconds.
When deleting/moving a folder, the progress bar is stuck at 99% for several seconds.
The freezing does not happens all the time (I would say 80% of the time). It seems to appear randomly.
It happens only on folders (not files).
Also, it never happens when copying folder.

I did my homework and finally found the culprit : the "Workstation" "LanmanWorkstation" service.
It runs as "svchost.exe -k NetworkService".
Disabling this service fix the Explorer freezing... but this is not a viable solution since (I guess) my system needs this service running.

During the freezing, there are no excessive CPU load or memory/disk/network access.

Does anyone has an idea/solution ?

Windows 10 explorer can't create, delete or rename folders anymore

Hello, Windows 10: unable to create new folders, rename old folders or even delete old folders. Example: It lets me write the name of the new folder but when I hit the enter key the explorer windows kind of freeze and have to close it to get out of the
loop. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

 

Daemon Tool issue with Windows 10

If your having the issue with the Explorer freezing!!

Easy Fix

open windows tab

-on the left hand bar "right" click "explorer

-Daemon tools is located usually in C: Programs (x86)

-what you need to do here is use the quick links to work your way to C: drive

- pin to quick access till you get to C: Programs (x86)

-once here find Daemon tools.

-simply right click the folder and "Rename"

- change the name

- Delete folder

- issue resolved

 

Just a question: are the files and Folders on a remote computer, not on your drive? I see a similar situation [but not as long] when working with my NAS drive.

 

All the files are local.
No NAS.
