Windows 10: Explorer opening new windows

I have the latest version of Windows 11 installed and I am finding that Explorer is behaving in an odd way. When I try to open a drive or folder, it opens in a new instance of Explorer. I have tried to install a repair of Windows and re-installed Windows twice thinking that would get around the problem but no. Would appreciate any help as this is driving me to distraction.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Internet Explorer won't open

Hi,

• If you cannot start Internet Explorer, you can open the settings window by pressing Windows Key + R, typing "inetcpl.cpl" in the Run box, and then pressing Enter. After the
  window is open, follow the steps that are described in the "How to reset Internet Explorer settings" section.

If above steps failed to solve.

• Try to create new user account and then open IE.

Or

• Try clean installation method to reset your system.

 

Windows Explorer Replacement?

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer
