Windows 10: External DVD Player not working

Hello anyone,


Running a Windows 10 64-bit OS. Have an external DVD player which up until recently was working fine on the computer. It's an 'Asus Blu Ray Writer SBW-06D2X-U'. My computer randomly couldn't recognise it anymore, it still makes the sound effect when plugged in (2x USB cable), but it only comes up now under in "Devices and Printers" in Device Manager as "External/Unknown" (pictures below) and doesn't show up in Device Manager.


I have got a new DVD player from the manafacturer, and tested it on another computer and it works fine, still nothing on mine. I have updated all usb and hard drive and firmware drivers on my computer. I have also tried to boot in safe mode, run in Selective Startup in System Configuration. I have also done a soft windows reset (restored to factory setting, but kept personal files) but once it had finished it redownloaded all of the windows 10 updates and meant it still didn't work.


Windows have not been very helpful so far, with a tech support guy telling me it must be a hardware issue with my computer and it needs to be taken into a repair shop. This is unusual because my USB ports seem to recognise anything else I attach fine (I have 3), so I can't see how it could be a port connection issue. And the hardware of the DVD drive is brand new fresh from the factory and works fine on other computers. Plus it is recognising as an External device, and up until very recently it worked perfectly fine on this computer with no clear changes or damage done to the computer (is less than a year old).


At my wits end a bit, and convinced at this point that its a Windows OS issue. Is there any help to be had?

Burned DVD's Work in SOME players

In that case, it is possible the problem is with the blu ray player not supporting DVD+R disks.

Suggest you check to make sure: it's possible you can overcome this problem by simply burning DVD-R instead of DVD+R. Check your blu ray compatibility list first.
