Windows 10: External DVD player problem & Windows 10

Bought my son his first computer and it has Windows 10. I'm not used to 10 and hate it. Anyhow, I bought an external DVD drive so I can install software but it does not open/recognize the drive. I hear the motor running on the dvd player when I plug it in but nothing happens on the screen. I can't find the drives screen and I don't know what to do.

In that case, it is possible the problem is with the blu ray player not supporting DVD+R disks.

Suggest you check to make sure: it's possible you can overcome this problem by simply burning DVD-R instead of DVD+R. Check your blu ray compatibility list first.

You are right about the connection, that was the problem, but I found a way around that so the issue is not the external dvd player now.

The issue is where to find the generic driver I deleted, which I am not sure of the exact name of the file, and despite a long search on the microsoft website it wasn't in any of the lists I checked. I deleted it as that was what was suggested to fix
the dvd problem, but as it's plug and play, it was the wrong thing to do anyway as it could see a different external drive.

Obviously this driver file is not needed for what I am doing now, but I want to reinstall it, in case I need it in the future
