failed activation Windows 10 Build 10240

first of all excuse for my english and explanation even on my own language i'm bad at this

this is what happened. i have problem with upgrading 10166 to 10240 every-time i restart my pc after it finished downloading the build from windows update nothing happens it just boot normal and not upgrading and when i check windows updates it downloads it again . so i decided to wait and backup the ESD file and convert it to ISO so i can do clean install. however after doing clean install i cant activate windows T_T soo late to know that microsoft no longer accepts products keys after build 10166. and can only upgrade to latest build via windows update

i've been a windows insider since first build and because of my stupidity i cant no longer get windows 10 for free

    my question guys..

can i still install build 10162? (since microsoft remove the iso's and keys) will it get activate when i signed in my microsoft account?)

    :)

  2. Windows 10 update

My PC has Windows 10 build 10240 and has accepted update KB3147461 but the automatic update keeps trying to instal (and fails) KB3147458 which I believe does not apply to build 10240. How can I stop this annoying activity!

  3. Had to roll back from 10240, now Windows 10 isn't activated?

If Windows 10240 was activated previously, you should be able to reinstall Windows 10 build 10240 specifically and reactivation will be done automatically.

It worked for me but it sounds like your machine may have incompatibility problems with the latest build.

    you can only try.

Yes I've read that mate, but the fact remains that I did it last night and this morning so there is a chance he can still do it.

He wont lose anything by trying.

  11. Just giving him all the facts so he knows what's going on and why. It's been reported if you do an upgrade install from Windows 7 or 8.1 it will activate. It's just the clean install generic keys that are blocked from activation.

You won't be able to activate it, dude. 10162 and 10166 keys are all revoked and will not work.

failed activation Windows 10 Build 10240

So what would be the process?
I had 10166 installed. When it began to update to 240 it screwed up big time and would not install and messed up 10166. No way that was going anywhere so I tried to reinstall 166 and no go. It won't go past the "one moment please' screen.
So is there no way I can get 10240 to activate? This doesn't seem right. The update to 240 is what screwed everything up.! I have 240 installed from a downloaded iso but of course it won't activate.
    Thanks for your help.

It's a bit of a mess. I had the 10240 update from 10166, but that already had issues with slow boot up and some features like PIN sign in not working carried over to the upgrade.

And a clean install is not working, with very little information here or elsewhere about the reasons for it. As beta software I don't mind running an unactivated system, but it irks me to have a half-working activated system, the ability to clean install it, but not to have it activate.

I used an .iso (prepared from the .esd from the upgrade) to upgrade an installed and activated 8.1 OS.

The result was activated. It also defaulted to NOT accepting Insider updates.

I'm not sure that 10240 is the same as what will appear on 7/29, but that is the behavior I'd expect for the released upgrade version.
