Windows 10: Failed Cumulative Update KB3194496

Please see below:



I have been trying over and over again to install this update without luck, like so many others it seems!
At the weekend it completely crashed my machine and I couldn't start Windows at all but I was saved by a Reflect image backup.
Now when it downloads the update it winds it back on startup.
I have been trying to follow guidance on the issue but with no luck and now not sure what I have or haven't done!
The machine is a recent rebuild from scratch, free from nasties and sfc reveals no file issues.
I have a second machine of a similar build and that updated without problem.
Can someone please provide me with some structured help.
I don't seem to be getting automatic notifications when I post on this site, any thoughts to resolve that so that I know when a response has been provided? I will keep coming back to check.

Windows Update KB3194496 INSTALL FAILED

Worked for me.

Essentially same instructions as this step-by-step "Fix Cumulative Update KB3194496 stuck or fail to install"

 

Windows update installation failure of update KB3194496

The update was failing with this mesage:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194496).

I tried this solution: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194496) - Error 0x80070026

But now it is still failing with different error code:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0841: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194496).

Looks like "a fix" is on it's way, reported yesterday by Microsoft:

"Microsoft has already confirmed that it’s working on a patch that would correct Windows 10 cumulative update KB3194496 installation issues, and now the company claims that it’s very close to releasing it to users.
Details aren’t yet available, but given that the firm says development is close to the final stages, the release could take place as soon as this week, most likely in the coming days.
“We’ve been working diligently on this issue and are finalizing a clean-up script that will fix the underlying issue preventing the install of KB3194496 (Cumulative Update 14393.222) for affected users. Your patience during our research and subsequent work is greatly appreciated,” Microsoft said in a post on the Community forums.
What’s important to know, however, is that this fix might first be released to insiders, as they were also experiencing problems with the cumulative update, so retail users might have to wait a little bit longer until they receive the same patch."

Looks like I'll have to wait unless anyone else has any brilliant ideas!

 

After getting a failed KB3194496 an hour ago, I downloaded the MediaCreationTool and Upgraded my machine.
Took about 20mins with no problems and then I got another immediate update which took just 5 mins and now I seem to be fully up-to-date with KB3176936.
I hope that's the end of that!
