  1. Failed Reverting Back to 7

My father hit yes to upgrad his HP Probook 6407b from Windows 7 to Win 10. He did not realize what he was saying yes to.

He brought it to me before it finsihed. I got into win 10, but then had issues with HP security software at boot. It would hang at boot, say something about a finger print reader, and then allow me to log in. So I decided to revert back to win 7. that failed. Goes to try a startup repair and it does not work. It looks like win 7 trying to do it and not 10.

Is there any way to recover either win 7 or 10?

I tried a win 10 usb drive, but it says the upgrade was previously started in windows, turn off machine and restart, but that fails.

    :)

so how do we revert back to Windows 7 AFTER the 30 days? My pavilliondv6 didn't come with a backup disc of the system image... so I don't have anything. is there a way to get my original product key or a disc/download sent to me for windows 7 from Microsoft??

How did you try to revert back to Win 7 ?
Did you do it this way ?........................................

Start button > left side, select Settings > select Update and Security > left side, select Recovery > right side, under Go back to Windows 7, click the Get Started button > follow the prompts from then on.

.................So I decided to revert back to win 7. that failed. ............................

Shouldn't there be an error message when it failed to revert back ?

Did your father have a Windows 7 Installation disk or a set of Recovery disks ?

Was your father's computer come with Windows 7 pre-installed ?

    I think it is 0xC000000e
The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

I do not have the win 7 disks.

  10. I am not sure. Sticker says win 8 pro. However, it is a work computer and they put win 7 on it. He will give to his IT guy tomorrow (small company, not great IT).

    You are in luck.
Your father has a Retail version of Win 7 installed.
I assume your father also has the Windows 7 product key. Yes ?

From what I can understand, the only way to go back to Windows 7 is to do a Clean Install.

Use the link below and download the Windows 7 ISO.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...nload/windows7
You are required to enter the product key first. If the key is approved , then follow the prompts.
After you have the iso downloaded, burn it to a bootable media, DVD or USB.
On the computer, use the F key ( usually it is F12 key) to go to Boot order screen > set the boot order to DVD or USB, depending which one you are using > insert the bootable media > restart the computer.
You are now starting to do a clean install.
You will be asked for a product key.
    Use the Win 7 product.
Follow the prompts from then on.

    Failed Reverting Back to 7

It does give you 30 days grace period.
Why it does not work for you this time is a mystery. It could be because the Win 10 installation was interrupted (He brought it to me before it finished).

How do you know it is a Windows 7 Retail version?

  15. It might be a corporate version. I am not sure if it is retail or not. I will talk to the IT guy tomorrow.

Good news is he only has around 600 megs of data (mainly word and excel files) and then his email is an exchange account. It was all in Dropbox plus I hooked the drive to another computer and made sure there was nothing on the desktop or other folders. So at this point, a new install is probably easiest. All he needs is word, excel, outlook, chrome, and acrobat reader (I think).

Just trying to figure what went wrong.

    thanks,
