Failed update 2020-12 KB4592438 and can't in-place upgrade keep files

    Hi,

    Windows Pro 20H2 [Version 10.0.19042.488]

I have spent over a week now trying to solve what's wrong with my W10, and I'm unable to do an in-place upgrade because of the known bug of not allowing to keep files and programs. I hope someone could help me to either fix the update(unlikely based on other threads, it seems the only way to fix it is with in-place upgrade) or fix the bug to keep my files so I can upgrade.

Things I tried to install the update
    1. My windows optional features fail to install anything (like a simple telnet client or anything else I select), errors generated make no sense, just mention a bluetooth driver
      Code:
    2. Policy template pointing directly to my windows image WIN file
    3. Stop and start of windows services, clearing the distr
    4. I have dual boot with linux, so I unplugged my SSD since I read WU doesn't like dual boot managed by linux
    5. Uninstalled my Kaspersky AV as I also read this could be a problem
    6. Removed additional languages and went back to my original OS language to match the image language (I installed en-US by my img is pt-br)
    7. Had DISM errors and were fixed by running in safe boot and pointing to a brand new image generated using the media creation tool
    8. SFC scan still fails on 19%, tried both normal and safe boot and it can't fix it, ran all possible DISM commands, no luck
      Code:

Then I decided to do an in-place upgrade, but then got the issue of not allowing to keep files and apps, then I came across the bug mentioned in another thread here, and that I should try to uninstall the Enablement Package (KB4562830) to get the keep files working again, and then I saw there was an update from MS to install KB4586853 that should fix that without need to do the previous workaround.

    • Tried installing the KB4586853 via double click, via right click with the "Install" feature from this forum, and directly via DISM, all failed
      Code:
    • Tried uninstalling the Enablement Package (via Control Panel and CMD), and it also failed.

I'm really out of options, can't figure this out in any way, it's just driving me crazy, it looks like I'm stuck on this version.
Do I need to upgrade with another KB from 488 to 661 or 662 where then the above fix from MS would work?

I just posted the errors, don't know if the above logs the info lines are useful or not. If so I can upload it.

    Thanks!

    :)

Trouble upgrading 20H2 with windows update

I'm running 10 version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.630) x64. Windows update tries to install KB4592438 2020-12 Cumulative update. Each time I run the windows upgrade, it fails saying some files are missing or have problems. Here is what I have tried: sfc /scannow, various flavors of DISM, stopped services, cleared out the upgrade cache, and restarted services. All of these result in exactly the same message.

Should I be worried about this? Can I ignore this? What other steps should I try?
