Windows 10: Failed Virus Scan Fail with Windows 10 latest update

I have updated the latest Windows 10 update and since then have been unable to download any documents, files or mp3s.


I have gone through all the online help i.e. I have used the inetcpl.cpl and ensured the relevant boxes are enabled.


I have changed the regedit.exe registry and gone through all the stages.


I have even removed by AVG security and then turned off Windows Defender Firewall and still it will not allow me to download anything. The problem is that now I cannot reinstall the AVG virus protector and VPN as everything just comes back stating FAiled Virus Scan Fail.


Unforutnately I did the update over 10 days ago so cannot now undo the update. Any help will be gratefully received.


All systems have been updated regularly on my laptop.

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

'Virus scan failed' message

Yes, I use Chrome. I've received several emails with Word doc attachments or google docs attached and I get the message "Failed - Virus scan failed"

I tried to go through the steps described by typing in regedit and going through the steps provided but that didn't solve the problem.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
