Windows 10: failed Windows 10 update for version 20H2

During routine patching done regularly, the Feature Update to version 20H2 failed and returned error 0x80073701.


Hardware and Software configuration:


Microsoft Surface Go 2

Intel Core m3-8100Y @ 1.10 GHz/1.61GHz

8 Gb RAM, 160 Gb free disk space

Windows 10 Education

64 bit version 2004 OS Build 19041.572


I have tried the following measures, all unsuccessfully.


1 Windows native Upgrade troubleshooter;

2 DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth, as well as /ScanHealth and /Startconfigurationrestore

3 SFC /scannow

4 Manual reset of Windows Update by stopping the wuauserv, bits, cryptsvc, and appidsvc service, deletion of SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2, and then restart of the services.


The diagnostic scans all report no corrupted system files. I have searched for a manual upgrade package, but evidently the Feature Update itself is not available. I have two further "new" Windows 10 machines for which the regular update ran flawlessly. Both run Windows 10 Pro. Is there an issue with Windows 10 Education? It had been my practice, perhaps unwise, to keep only the most recent restore point. On the Surface Go 2, however, it appears that I had not configured the restore surface, so there is no restore point that I can use to put the machine back to its pre-patch state. In principle, I can do a system reset, but this is a drastic measure I would rather avoid.

windows updates 20H2

Hi team...my most recent version is windows 10 20H2 , despite that the office 2010 32 bit updates are failing with the error code 0x80070643....i checked several times and updated office 2019 on my PC.

unable to find a solution, and it seems that if eventually that will fail....ultimately operating system clean install option will be the last remaining option, which I do not want to do.....

kindly suggest what to do?

 

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows 10 version 20H2

The computer in question had Windows 7 on it and there was not an option to uninstall the 20H2 update. So I have reverted back to Windows 7. Is there a way to download and install Windows 10 version 2004? The games will work on that version but not the
20H2 version.
