  1. Family Time Limits just went crazy

I have never turned time limits on for my kids. As they are young, we limit the time they can access the devices, and this works for us. However, yesterday, as my kids are in the middle of doing their school work from home amidst Quarantine, Both kids received notification that they were no longer allowed to use the browser. The notification that popped up allowed them to request more time on the browser firefox.

This was a shock to me, having never turned on time limits to begin with. So I log in, and find that, for both children, yes, time limits are now enabled. However, for firefox, the limits are "unlimited", 24 hours, with no stopping. Despite that, windows is locking both kids out at just 3 hours.

So I disabled time limits. Nothing changed. This morning, after the computers have both been off and unused for 19 hours, both kids log in to find that their time limit is ALREADY UP. So now the time limit is just 0 minutes. And when they request more time, the most I am allowed to 'grant' them, as their legal guardian, is 3 hours.

3 ridiculously short hours, in the face of already stressful home schooling.

This is infuriating. I used Microsoft Family to help filter content my kids have access to, and that is all. Now, I suddenly feel like Microsoft has decided I need a co-parent. I'm no longer capable of raising my own children and deciding how they should be allowed to experience the world.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday trawling this support forum, and trying everything I found. Nothing worked, obviously, as my children still have to request more time every three hours.

This started out of Nowhere, yesterday. I CHANGED NOTHING prior to this. No new software was installed. No settings were changed by me. It is very apparent to me that Microsoft has changed something on the Family backend, and you need to revert it. Give me back my parenting control, so that my children can actually do their schoolwork.

    :)

Windows 10 Family Safety time limits not working

I had this exact problem and these are the steps I took to get the issue resolved:

    • Navigate to family safety settings and remove the child from the family having issues.
    • Login to the childs account and launch Settings (windows key + i)
    • Click the Accounts icon and select Sign in with local account instead
    • Follow the steps to change to a local account. When completed, Login back to your account (admin account)
    • Go back to the family safety settings and add your child back to the family group.
    • Access your childs email address to accept the family invitation
    • Verify the child now shows properly in the family settings and that the screen times are still correct.
    • Login to the childs account and launch Settings (windows key + i)
    • Click the Accounts icon and select Sign in with microsoft account instead
    • Your family settings should now take affect.

I know this is pretty tedious, but like I said, it worked for me. If you are still having trouble, I suggest contacting support and they can help walk you through the steps to get it resolved.
