In my area I have two main choices, Dial-up and Comcast. Comcast is a little expensive but I could never go back to dial-up. I did receive a offer to sign up for HughesNet. I know nothing about satellite internet so I passed on it.

Good point. OK. Here in France internet is a human right (apparently) and can't be taken away but isn't of course free (about $30 unlimited a month including basic TV/phone).

Can't comment on pricing vs US but as far as I can figure internet should cost more in the US than small European countries as (I hope I'm not being contentious here) the US is bigger. You'd need longer cables and so on.

*Shock *Eek $30 for phone/basic tv/Internet. That is cheap.

  6. It's worse in Australia.
We're about the same size as the US, but with 1/10 of the population.

Our Internet package isn't too bad.
For $80/month we get 250 GB of data and bundled phone service.
The Internet speed is poor though (~5Mb/s).

€30 actually which is about $33. But France is sparsely populated for Europe (it is the size of Texas and only about twice the population). Some smaller counties are cheaper. That was my point - if there are lots of people close together it is cheaper than if you have to run cables 100s of miles for just a couple of guys. Probably.

Here in Denmark (well, not in entire Denmark yet) we have fibercable to TV, Phone and Internet. For the moment I pay about 40$ pr month for Phone, and unlimited Internet til a speed og 60mbps down and 60mbps upload. If I pay about 56$ pr month, my ups and downs will increase to 100mbps. For even higher prices I can get up to 500mbps ups and downs at my private connection. But for now I'm happy with my 60/60 fiberoptic *Smile

With Comcast in TN I get 50mbps for 50$ a month. I think it's not bad for that kind of speed and if I wanted to I can get 20mbps for around 25$ a month.

Yes, but you usually have to have another cable tv to get that price, depending on the area it has to be limited service tv or expanded service. Here Comcast finally allows limited service and economy together they didn't use to do that. I pay around $23 for limited service, will pay 29.95 for internet. I am currently paying 19.95 for economy internet special.

How long does it take you to download 2.38 gb file? Just curious.

I guess Comcast had different pricing structures depending on where you live.

They must have. Here's what is available in my area:
    1. 3 Mbps @ $29.95
    2. 6 Mbps @ $49.95
    3. 25 Mbps @ $53.95
    4. 105 Mbps @ $63.95
    5. 150 Mbps @ $ 79.99
You must have Xfinity TV or Voice.
150 Mbps also come with the Triple Play package.

  14. And none of the numbers include any additional charges which there are a bunch.
    Internet is already freaking outrageous
These regulations will only make it worse.
