Windows 10: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803 - Error 0x80070005

Hi there Community,


For the last 8 months I have been trying to update Windows 10 to Version 1803 but get different Error messages. I have tried everything from reading posts such as going to Windows Update Trouble Shooting button.

Every time it brings up a dialogue box telling me that a Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected.


It tells me


"One troubleshooting step to resolve WU issues is to delete and re-download updates to your computer. Would you like to try this step now? Depending on your network configuration, you may incur download costs."


What do I do to affect a change?

How do I resolve this? Every solution I've seen was for Vista.

Good morning:

On my Thinkpad X1 5th generation, I have tried many times to update 1709 to 1803 (Fall Creators to April update). Each time it stops and gives the message "• Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803 - Error 0x80070005".

I have tried the suggested trouble-shooting diagnostics multiple times, each time getting the fixed checkmark. Then the same error.

One of the suggested solution procedures was a bit more complicated than I was willing to undertake. So, I have now created a bootable 1803 USB and backed up the X1.

Does anyone know how to fix this error? I would prefer to use the windows automatic update. Of course, I can try to "clean install" windows 1803, or simply wait until the problem is fixed.

Any Ideas?
