Windows 10: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 - Major Issue

Yesterday I ran the feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 on my high-end DELL Area 51 PC and it killed it.


After the install ran, my 3 monitors which were working perfectly prior to the update stopped and only one worked, as did my external camera which used to work for Windows Hello.


When I logged into windows, the desktop came up pretty fast but then everything hung and hung bad, the clock in system tray took about 5 minutes to update. I let it sit for 30 minutes, the cursor frozen and only periodic changes (many minutes of time elapsed). Subsequent restarts over hours realized the same.


Tried to run Safe Mode however in the process of running Windows recovery, was prompted for BitLocker Key however the Key ID that was presented to me was not the one that was registered on my live ID account, that was associated to my Bitlocked drives. I am still not sure where that ID originates from, I suspect that it was part of the Update image that was downloaded.


I know my Bitlocker ID's work because at one time during my long-day affair, I ran a windows recovery diagnostics option that asked me for the correct Bitlocker Key ID, one that matched the one associated to my account and one that once I typed in my key it ran the diagnostics option it told me all was good. Problem was, I still required to run in Safe mode so that I could address what Microsoft support told me was bad drivers, however when I tried that windows recovery option (safe mode) upon restart it kept asking me for a BitLocker KeyID which wasn't mine.


In speaking with Microsoft support they suggested that I clear the TPM from the Bios, and which when I did, allowed me to skip drive (bad Bitlocker key ID) and then it showed me my bitlocker key ID, which once I typed in, took me to the cmd prompt of the DELL recovery drive X: from there I was able to confirm that I could access C: drive.


But unfortunately after a reboot, this Skip Drive option no longer works and now every boot of the machine takes me to the Windows Recovery Screen, requesting the BitLocker Key for the ID that I don't have. When I select Other Bitlocker options it takes me to a screen that is similar, also asking for the same, but wrong Bitlocker ID but with the Skip Drive button. Unfortunately when I press this button, instead of showing a screen with my BitLocker ID it takes me back to the first (3 Options) Windows Recovery Initial screen. This repeats over and over, no matter the option I select in recovery.


It seems as if that Windows Recovery has stored some state associated to a Feature roll-back request and as mentioned, I suspect that the Bitlocker Key that is being requested, is something that was sent to me as per the Windows Update, in the image, it certainly isn't my Bitlocker ID


Anyway, I am determined to resolve this issue, I figure I need to get back to the point where I am prompted to enter in my valid Bitlocker ID but at this point it's seems as if Windows recovery is in a stuck loop.


I am able to access the X: recovery drive as well as a number of other drives E: F: and G: which appear to be related to Windows recovery and DELL orchestration of windows recovery as there are a number of folders that suggest by name that they are recovery related, along with log files, etc.


So does anyone know how and more importantly where Windows recovery manages it's state of process. I am hoping to delete that state so that I can get it back to a point where I can access my C: OS Drive. I know the Bitlocker key I have does unlock it, just can't get there any longer. Is there a command line cmd that I can run to access my C drive.


I'd say that a request for help is an understatement at this point having spent 9 hours with both Microsoft and Dell support yesterday, each accusing the other of it being the others problem. Dell forced me to pay for software support because my $6000 PC is broken and I only have basic hardware support.


I just want to resolve this issue, so is there any kind soul out there that can help me, it would be very much appreciated.

Windows 10 Creators Update to Feature New Levels of Privacy Control

Just a tiny step closer before I'll upgrade to windows 10....

 

Next Major Windows 10 Update Named "Spring Creators Update"

The next Windows 10 service pack major update has been named "Spring Creators Update." Windows Insider Program users toying with Build 17618 of the operating system spotted a listing of all the major updates of Windows 10 known to the build, when running "Get-VMHostSupportedVersion" in Power Shell. The last entry reads "Microsoft Windows 10 Spring Creators Update 1803." The version number (1803 in this case), often coincides with the public release date of the update. The Fall Creators Update 1709, released in 2017-09 (September) to Insiders. Going by that convenion, Spring Creators Update could see a "branded" Insider preview build this month, 2018-03 (March), with a public release usually 3-4 weeks after, presumably before Summer kicks in.
