Windows 10: Features removed or Deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Discus and support Features removed or Deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; Micro$oft doesn't care what you think. They want to advance their "UWP apps" agenda and will do whatever it takes to kill as many native Windows... Discussion in 'Windows 10 News' started by cereberus, Jul 22, 2017.

A company, any company should care about their customers and what they think. GM did not do that for years and ended having to be bailed out by The Government.

Microsoft also did that with Windows 8 with the lack of the start menu.

I have a suspicion that Windows is going to become something that most hardcore desktop users are going to hate!

Anything Microsoft makes or does has been something "hardcore" desktop users have hated for the last two decades *Smile

Having said that, and no offence intended to anyone, I wouldn't class anyone who relies on Paint as a "hardcore" user. I have never used it because it is too basic - by way of a long story, it is why I currently use paid-for software. And yet I reckon there'll be a big shout from a lot of people about losing it. Perhaps understandably.

In what way am I not a hardcore desktop user? I mean, I just love the evolution of Windows which according to you, as I it understand, means I am just a "softcore" user.

As far as I am concerned, judging by what I read on these forums and other sites, most of the complaints seem to come from users who do use computers and Windows for almost exclusively to tweak them to be eye candy, things completely unrelated to functionality of Windows.

    Is that "hardcore"?

"Oh s**t! I can't make that icon on Start to be exactly 63.8 pixels and font 0.7 points smaller cursive burgundy red! Windows 10 sucks!"

Please tell me more. You obviously are a hardcore user, as obvious is that I am not. I would appreciate it from the heart of my bottom bottom of my heart if you could enlighten, educate and civilize me and tell what is the definition of a hardcore user?

As I am apparently not a hardcore desktop user and therefore not familiar with this, I would also appreciate a list of all things you hardcore users have hated in Windows past 20 years. I help you to get started with the list: In 1997 (20 years ago), current release of Windows was Windows 95. What was it you hardcore users hated in it?

Tip This might come as a surprise to you:

Contrary to what seems to be commonly believed, there are no laws in any of the 200+ countries in the world forcing an owner of a personal computer to use Windows or any other operating system.

You have full legal and moral rights to replace WIndows with any operating system of your choice, Seeing how some users apparently spend most of their time complaining about eye candy and other profoundly trivial issues with none whatsoever effect in functionality of Windows, I wholeheartedly recommend these users to find an operating system that can satisfy their needs.

It's not rocket science: If you hate your Ford, get a Volkswagen.

I have to agree with Kari's earlier post. I am staggered by number of people who are more concerned with cosmetic issues, than real features. What concerns me more is MS pander to these.

Let's be honest - the Autumn Creators Update is full of cosmetic claptrap but I see very few truly innovative new features.

  10. I have a different view. As I understand it, there has been a lot of improvements and fixes under the hood where the most critical part of the OS exists.

I don't care that much about the eye candy stuff. I only care that the core OS functionality is efficient.

If we really start thinking hard about what an OS is. It is meant to take user input, provide some output to screen, storage media or audio devices.Be a container for managing applications that are created for specific tasks. All applications an OS needs by default are the ones that helps manage OS itself and help it stay secure and the user information secure. The rest is optional and each and every user decides what is important to them.

My definition of a hardcore OS (Windows) user is the one that takes advantage of what the OS has to offer and gets things done. A computer and it's OS is a tool after all. It is not a painting that we put on the wall, like so many think it should be (referring to all those who think eye candy on the desktop is first priority)

  11. @Kari You are a hardcore Windows user, no need to take comments personally or get insulted by them. ( Even if optimized networking performance is 10-20% slower on Windows than Linux.) *Wink

    I don't think you'd listen.

You seem to see things that aren't there, which I suppose does tick a few "hardcore" boxes.

I only see exactly what was there. This is what you said:

Current release of Windows two decades ago was Windows 95, and according to you since that hardcore users have hated everything MS has done. Posting a statement like that you naturally have facts to support it, so it shouldn't be too difficult to you to tell for instance what was it in let's say Windows 95, 98 and 2000 that hardcore users hated. If you want to, you could expand your explanation to cover Windows XP, too, to tell what in XP was hated by hardcore users.

Alternatively, of course, you could just admit that your statement is not true and you only posted it because you thought it would be taken at face value, as a fact, without anyone challenging it.

  14. Actually, dropping SYSKey is a major thing for MS. It's a tool used by scammers to lock out your machine after hitting a remote session.

Removing it completely at least will stop some headaches.

  15. Which is exactly what they did with the new "Paint" app from the Windows Store.

But this should hardly surprise anyone. I thought that in all eventuality, the Explorer portion of Windows would be replaced entirely with the Universal/Metro style. So we're just seeing this occur piece-meal.
