    I also said:

It is an opinion, and no different from the opinions of those who think rendering the name "Microsoft" with a $ sign is original.

And I still don't think anyone who relies on Paint is automatically a "hardcore" user, anymore than someone who values the title "hardcore" is. As I say, just my opinion.

Do you know that this File explorer App already exists? Make a shortcut to
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:AppsFolder\c5e2524a-ea46-4f67-841f-6a9465d9d515_cw5n1h2txyewy!App
and you can see it. It seems good enough for phones perhaps [but even then I'd find an alternative].

Regarding the changes in Windows as time goes by I'd like to say that my first computer had MS-DOS 5.0 with Windows 3.1 running on top of DOS. A big change touted back then ['91-'92] was the inclusion of better Font management that was lacking in Windows 3.0 which needed something third-party like Adobe Font Manager. Even today Windows still has write.exe from 'back then' which is more or less just a shortcut to WordPad.

so screensavers are over? I don't really understand how to interpret the wording. I think they look good too. I like the fact that after a period of ten minutes that the screen launches into a photo slideshow screensaver. Are we able to use 3rd party screensavers going forward? I'm a windows fan over mac but screensavers is streets ahead on my iMac, does all sorts of cool things such as a much better photo slideshow, mosaic of music covers, dictionary definitions etc etc. It just looks really good.

Realistically, screen savers have not been necessary since the non-interlaced CRT monitors came out 25 years or more ago. Yes, they were necessary on the earlier interlaced monitors to prevent the characteristic burn-in of the phosphorous coating on the inside of the CRT.

Understood. I just think they look good. Nice to see a photo slideshow screensaver if machine is left unattended for a while

You could always set the lock screen to be a slideshow.

  10. Many still use CRT monitors. For some purposes they are much better than most LCD. They do however consume a lot of power.

I've not used screensavers in years. IMHO its better to make the monitor turn off after a period of inactivity.

  12. Agree! But IF you are on a CRT monitor, then turning it off will make you waste time. After turning it back on, it can take up to 30 minutes before the screen is exactly as it was calibrated. Thus a screensaver can be really handy. On LCDs we don't have this problem.

Sorry, but that is not totally true.
LCD's need to run a bit(warm up) too for people like photographers or graphics designers, using/needing 100% color space/gamut.
All color calibration software tells you to let your screen warm up for 15 - 30 minutes before calibration, even for LCD or OLED.
