First - please do not send any responses of what I SHOULD have done -- e.g. backed up on a regular basis.

ISSUE -- after an automatic update on February 12, 2019, all of my personal files were gone. When I tried to access them through the Office Application e.g. Word through the last opened or frequently used selection I got a message stating the drive was not available. When I plug in my external drive I get the same message.

What the heck is going on? I can't let myself believe the files are actually deleted so where the blank are they? I won't begin to explain the pictures, legal documents, excel files etc.

The folder hierachy doesn't exist -- MyPDF's gone, MyWord, MyExcel etc aren't even there.

    Please help.

    :)

    Vista Automatic Updating Error

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
