Windows 10: File Explorer Crashing

I've read a few posts about the same issue but can't find a fix that has worked for me.

Whenever I try to open File Explorer, a few other things crash too. Like Paint, even Settings. I've tried running scf /scanow several times. The first time, it said 'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log'. Great! Except the problem wasn't fixed. Ran it 3 more times and now it says 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations' every time.

My system is up to date. I've tried clearing File Explorer history. I've tried launching folder windows in a separate process. I have no antivirus running.

Annoyingly, I can't use Windows Virus and Threat protection because as soon as I start the scan, it crashes. I downloaded Restoro and ran the malware scan and it couldn't detect any issues.

Also, I Windows Key + S, view all problem reports control panel but there is no report of any of the crashes, which is extremely confusing. So I can't do the 'view technical details.'

Any help would be appreciated.

Effective Way to Solve the File Explorer Crashes Issue

You can try the following steps:

1. Tap down the Windows button first to activate the search bar.
2. After that, in the search bar type control, and then click on the top-most search result, that is on Control Panel.
3. Next, in the search bar type file.
4. Now, from the search results click on File Explorer Options.
5. Then, click on the Clean button.
6. Lastly, click on Apply and then on OK.

File explorer keeps crashing in Win 10

I did the steps you wrote. All the settings were as you suggested. The File Explorer keeps crashing.

thats wierd... iv never had a large file crash explorer before....


and i have files ranging upto 80GB...
